Modi Government has ruined the Indian economy, per capita debt exceeds Rs 4.8 lakh: Congress

By Jagadananda Pradhan

(Fast Mail):-- The
Congress  today alleged that the Narendra Modi-led central government has ruined the Indian economy, with per capita debt rising from Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 4.8 lakh in the last two years.

Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also claimed that while the public is drowning in debt, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s close allies are reaping profits, and their wealth continues to grow.

Ramesh posted on X, “Debt of Achhe Din”(Debt of Good Days ) ! Over the past eleven years, the Modi government has destroyed the country’s economy. No efforts have been made to improve people’s lives; policies have been crafted solely for capitalist friends, and the consequences are being borne by the nation’s people today.”

He stated, the truth is emerging in some form every day.Citing some news reports, Ramesh claimed, “The Reserve Bank’s latest report paints a worrying picture of India’s economy. The government continues to hide real shortcomings through data manipulation and reliance on experts, but no one can deny that the debt burden on the country has reached its peak under Modi’s regime.”

He said that in two years, per capita debt has increased by ?90,000 to Rs4.8 lakh, meaning 25.7 percent of people’s income is going solely toward repaying loans. The Congress leader claimed, “The highest 55 percent of loans are for so-called credit cards, mobile EMIs, etc., which means families are unable to manage with their income in this inflation and are forced to take loans. Unsecured loans have crossed 25 percent.”

According to Ramesh, the most concerning fact is that by March 2025, India’s external debt stood at $736.3 billion, which is 10 percent higher than the previous year.

He claimed that the youth are jobless, farmers are committing suicide, people are distressed by inflation, and constitutional institutions are being crushed. The Congress leader alleged that while the public is drowning in debt, Prime Minister Modi’s close allies are making profits, and their wealth is steadily increasing.

Ramesh said, “The straightforward question is: when all government projects are being executed through public-private partnerships or private partnerships, why is the country’s debt increasing, and why is every Indian burdened with a debt of Rs.4,80,000?”.
