Pat Cummins' mother dies, Australian players tie black armband

Ahmedabad, Mar 10, (Fast Mail News):-- Players of the Australian cricket team wore black armbands as a tribute to Pat Cummins' mother on the second day of the fourth and final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy here. Cummins' mother passed away on Thursday after a long battle with cancer.

 

On Friday morning in Ahmedabad, coach Andrew McDonald assembled the team ahead of the day's play and informed that Maria Cummins, mother of Pat Cummins, had died of breast cancer.

 

Cricket Australia said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Maria Cummins. On behalf of Cricket Australia, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family and their friends. The Australian men's team today wore a tribute sleeve Wear a black band."

 

Cummins captained the team in the first two Tests against India in the Border-Gavaskar series, with Steve Smith leading the team in his absence, before leaving for Sydney to look after his mother. The team has praised Cummins for his captaincy in the first two Tests.

 

Talking about the fourth match, batting first in this match, Australia scored 325 for 4 wickets on the second day thanks to opener Usman Khawaja's brilliant unbeaten century and Cameron Green's unbeaten half-century till the news was written. Khawaja is playing on 140 and Green is scoring 83 runs.
