US Administration Hopes for Trump-Putin Meeting Soon

WASHINGTON: The US administration is hopeful that a meeting between President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will take place soon.

Sebastian Gorka, Deputy Assistant to the US President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism, said that deals and agreements are an ongoing process, and the time is ripe for Trump and Putin to meet.

Gorka while announcing this at an international security conference organized by Politico said Trump planned to participate in Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul to which the White House officials flatly replied, “No.”

Gorka emphasized the need to ensure that all parties involved avoid rigid stances. He assured that President Trump would definitely be present when a final agreement is sealed.

Regarding potential discussions on international recognition of Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea and other regions, Gorka declined to comment.

However, Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated on Thursday that there are no plans for a Putin-Trump meeting in the coming days.
