10 Militants Neutralized Along India-Myanmar Border By Indian Army

NEW DELHI: The Indian Army has neutralized 10 militants along the India-Myanmar border.

The Army's Eastern Command sharing this information on X said, "Based on intelligence inputs regarding militant activities near New Samtal village in Khegjoy tehsil of Chandel district, close to the India-Myanmar border, a unit of Assam Rifles, under the Spear Corps, launched an operation on May 14, 2025."

The post further elaborated, "During the operation, suspected militants opened fire on the soldiers, who responded promptly in a controlled and balanced manner. In the exchange of fire, 10 militants were killed, and a significant quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered."

This operation is considered a major success for security forces amid on-going unrest in Manipur. The action on India’s eastern border comes at a time when tensions are high along the India-Pakistan border following India’s recent airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor.

Notably, last year, the central government approved the construction of border fencing and roads along the 1,610-kilometer-long India-Myanmar international border to curb infiltration into Manipur. According to government sources, infiltrators from neighbouring Myanmar have been entering Manipur, prompting the Indian government to end the free movement regime along the India-Myanmar border.

Sources indicate that the Cabinet Committee on Security has given in-principle approval for border fencing and the construction of border roads along the 1,610-kilometer India-Myanmar border, at an estimated cost of approximately ?31,000 crore.
