Congress attack's Modi's I-Day speech, calls it stale, hypocritical and insipid

By Jagadananda Pradhan
(Fast Mail News):-
-Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh described Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day address from the Red Fort today as “ stale, hypocritical, insipid, and troubling”.

In a  post on his official X  account, he raised several serious questions about the Prime Minister's speech, calling it misleading to the public.

Jairam Ramesh accused PM Modi of reiterating his old recycled slogans like ‘Viksit Bharat’, ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, and ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ which have been heard year after year with little to show in terms of measurable outcomes.

He specifically mentioned the ‘Made-in-India Semiconductor Chip’ initiative, which  has now been made innumerable times — each time with fanfare, each time without delivery.

He expressed that it has in fact been made with a huge lie - which is Mr. Modi's trademark and he reminded thatIndia's first Semiconductor Complex was set up in Chandigarh in the early 1980s.

Ramesh called the PM’s claims about farmer welfare has become hollow and unbelievable given his history of attempting to bulldoze the three black farm laws.

He added that promises like legal guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP), setting MSP with a 50% profit margin, and waiving farmers’ loans have not been fulfilled.

The Prime Minister’s remarks on job creation were dismissed by Ramesh as an “empty ritual” lacking a concrete roadmap. This is just a lip-service to job-creation ,he alleged.

Ramesh accused the Prime Minister of speaking about unity, inclusivity, and democracy while simultaneously weakening constitutional institutions like the Election Commission.

He said that Modi has failed to address serious concerns raised by the Leader of the Opposition on the credibility of the electoral process.

He also highlighted the issue of millions of voters being removed from voter lists in Bihar under the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) process.

Ramesh’s sharpest criticism was directed at the Prime Minister mentioning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from the Red Fort, which he called a “violation of the spirit of a constitutional and secular republic.”

According to Ramesh, this was an attempt to appease the RSS, as a weakened Prime Minister, post-June 4, 2024, now relies on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat to extend his tenure beyond September.

In the conclusion of his post, Jairam Ramesh wrote, “Today, the Prime Minister appeared tired. He will retire soon.”

Ramesh argued that on Independence Day, the Prime Minister should have honestly addressed the nation’s economic crisis, unemployment, and growing inequality. Instead, the speech was a “mix of self-praise and selective anecdotes.”
