PM Modi's 'Mega' Partnership Formula Has Become a Headache for India,Says Congress

(Fast Mail):-- The Congress party on Wednesday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the implementation of a 50 percent tariff imposed by the United States on India.

The Congress leaders said that Modi's "mega" partnership formula with the US has become a major headache for the country.

Party president Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that the tariffs would result in an estimated loss of ?2.17 lakh crore in just 10 sectors.The additional 25 percent tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump on India for purchasing Russian oil came into effect on Wednesday, bringing the total US tariff on India to 50 percent.

Kharge posted on X, "Narendra Modi ji, your dear friend’s 'Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar' has imposed a 50 percent tariff on India starting today. In just 10 sectors, we will face an estimated loss of ?2.17 lakh crore in the first blow of this tariff."

He added, "Our farmers, especially cotton farmers, have been severely affected. You said you were ready to pay any 'personal price' to protect them, but you have done nothing to mitigate this blow or safeguard their livelihoods."

According to Kharge, the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) suggests that the country’s GDP could be impacted by approximately one percent, which would benefit China.

Kharge further stated, "Many export-oriented critical sectors, including MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), will experience large-scale job losses."

He claimed that the Indian textile export sector faces a potential loss of around 500,000 jobs, including both direct and indirect employment.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posted on X, "Trump’s double tariff has come into effect. This will undoubtedly impact our labour-intensive exports to the US, particularly affecting textiles, gems and jewellery, leather, marine products, and engineering sectors."

He added that in the last 24 hours, the US Commerce Secretary has also spoken against the H1B visa system, which has been greatly beneficial to Indian IT professionals.

Ramesh said, "This has been one of the key demands of President Trump’s 'MAGA' (Make America Great Again) agenda. This is the same MAGA that Prime Minister Modi used in his so-called victorious formula 'MAGA + MIGA = MEGA' earlier this year."

He claimed that this "MEGA" created by Modi has now become a major headache for India.During his US visit in February this year, Prime Minister Modi had coined the phrase 'Make India Great Again' (MIGA), inspired by President Donald Trump’s famous slogan 'Make America Great Again' (MAGA).

Modi had said that these two visions together create a "mega" partnership for prosperity and will elevate bilateral ties to new heights.
