Threat of 'Kajiki' Looms Over Laos After Devastation in China

China’s 13th typhoon of the year, Kajiki, made landfall in Hainan province in southern China on Sunday night, affecting over one lakh people. 

According to reports,Typhoon Kajiki passed through the coastal areas of Ledong Li via the resort city of Sanya before moving toward the central and northern coastal regions of Vietnam.

 Preliminary data indicates that around 1,02,500 people in Hainan province were affected by the storm.

As of 9 AM Monday, no casualties were reported.  According to the news agency Xinhua, the typhoon caused damage to roads, water supply systems, electricity, and communication facilities in cities and counties including Sanya, Ledong, Lingshui, and Wanning.

 

 In some areas, trees were uprooted, and flooding occurred.  Over 10,000 personnel from the military, armed police, and firefighting units have been deployed to the affected areas.

Additionally, more than 7,70,000 emergency supplies have been allocated for flood control, disaster relief, and clearing roadways.

Public transportation across the province is gradually resuming, and flights from Sanya Phoenix International Airport have restarted. 

Meanwhile, in view of Typhoon Kajiki, people in Laos have been urged to stay prepared. The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds across the country.
