Congress Not Intimidated by Threats, Election Commission Should First Submit Affidavit on Voter List Accuracy: Pawan Khera

(Fast Mail):--  Pawan Khera, head of Congress's media department, on Monday hit back at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, stating that the Election Commission should first submit an affidavit in the Supreme Court affirming that there are no discrepancies in the voter list, and only then will the Congress party submit an affidavit proving otherwise.

He also asserted that Congress is not intimidated by the Chief Election Commissioner's threats. On Sunday, the Chief Election Commissioner had stated that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, should either submit an affidavit supporting his claims of vote theft and voter list irregularities or issue an apology.

Responding to this in Gaya on Monday, Khera said, "The impact of the Voter Rights Yatra is such that as soon as it began, Gyanesh Kumar Gupta had to hold a press conference.Yesterday, he issued a threat, saying, 'Submit an affidavit or apologize.'He seems to have forgotten that we are not scared of threats."

Khera further stated that the Chief Election Commissioner lacks confidence in his own documents. Khera remarked that the functioning of the Election Commission in this country is deeply concerning.

He questioned how Gyanesh Kumar believes he can threaten the Leader of Opposition or 60 percent of the country's population, adding, "He should know that we are not intimidated by threats."

Khera pointed out that the Election Commission claims sharing CCTV footage would violate the privacy of women. He questioned, "If CCTV footage compromises privacy, then why were cameras installed at the cost of crores of rupees?"

He noted that during a press conference around 4 PM, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that, as per Supreme Court orders, they cannot provide machine-readable voter lists. However, by around 7 PM, the Election Commission itself uploaded a machine-readable voter list of 65 lakh people from Bihar on its website.

Khera called this a "completely different story," highlighting that the same list, which was claimed to violate privacy, was publicly released by the Election Commission.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar alleged that the BJP intends to "steal the Constitution."

He claimed that election surveys in Maharashtra and Haryana predicted a Congress and allies' government, but the results were the opposite.

He stated that Rahul Gandhi had demanded an electronic voter list, and the Election Commission has now entangled itself in its own arguments. Kumar claimed that the Election Commission is now admitting to discrepancies in the voter list, implying that a few months ago, it was lying when it claimed the voter list was error-free. When Rahul Gandhi exposed these irregularities, the Election Commission demanded an affidavit.

Kumar countered, "We say the Election Commission should first show its own documents."The Congress leader stated that the Election Commission is demanding an affidavit because it lacks confidence in its own records. He accused the Commission of trying to mislead the public with manipulated data.

Kumar reiterated that the Election Commission should submit an affidavit in the Supreme Court confirming no irregularities in the voter list, after which Congress will provide an affidavit proving the discrepancies.

He further alleged that genuine voters were harassed under the pretext of paperwork. Kumar claimed that the Election Commission's intentions are unclear and that it is more focused on "polishing the image of the supreme leader."
