BS Yediyurappa's son Bijayendra appointed as Karnataka BJP President
BENGALURU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed BY Vijayendra Yediyurappa, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, as the state president. He succeeds Nalin Kumar Kateel, who was appointed as the state BJP chief in 2019. Vijayendra will be the tenth BJP state chief of Karnataka.
BJP said in a statement, “BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda has appointed MLA Vijayendra Yediyurappa as the state president of Karnataka BJP. This appointment comes into effect immediately.” It is shocking for first time that MLA Vijayendra becomes the state president. There was competition for this post among senior leaders of the state BJP. Senior leaders like Shobha Karandlaje, CT Ravi and V. Sunil Kumar were in the running for the post, but the party chose Vijayendra, who is junior to many BJP leaders in the state. After all, why was he given this post, let us understand the political meaning…
According to political experts, the decision highlights the party's recognition of the veteran Lingayat leader's enduring influence on its political landscape. Yediyurappa comes from the Lingayat community. Lingayat is also called Veerashaiva. They are members of the Hindu sect widespread in South India, which worships Shiva as the sole deity.
