Dragon and Elephant Must Come Together : Xi Jinping

BEIJING: After a gap of seven years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting that lasted about an hour.

Amid US tariffs, the eyes of the world were on this meeting, which could potentially trouble US President Donald Trump in several ways. This is because Xi Jinping emphasized that the "Dragon and Elephant must come together.

The bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin, China, has concluded after an hour-long discussion. The talks covered several issues concerning China and India.What Did Xi Jinping Say in the Meeting?

Chinese President Xi Jinping said, "Prime Minister Modi, it is a great pleasure to meet you. I warmly welcome you to China for the SCO summit. We had a successful meeting last year in Kazan."

Xi Jinping further stated, "The world is moving towards change. China and India are two ancient civilizations. We are the two most populous countries in the world and part of the Global South. Therefore, it is essential for us to be friends, good neighbours, and for the Dragon and Elephant to come together."

He added that both countries must handle their relations with a strategic and long-term perspective. "We should work together for peace and prosperity in Asia and the entire world.

During the meeting, PM Modi stressed the importance of peace and stability on the border, mutual cooperation, and strengthening ties. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that the discussions in Kazan had given a positive direction to the relationship.

The meeting also highlighted the agreement on border management and the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
