Congress Targets RSS Over Call to Review Preamble Words, Says Their Thinking is Anti-Constitution

(Fast Mail):-- Following a statement by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale calling for a review of the words "socialist" and "secular" in the Preamble of the Constitution, the Congress party accused the RSS and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being "anti-constitutional."

Hosabale had called for a review of the words "socialist" and "secular" in the Constitution’s Preamble. The Congress stated that it would never allow the "conspiracy" of the BJP-RSS to succeed and would oppose any such move.

In a post on X, Congress said, "The thinking of RSS-BJP is anti-constitutional. Now, RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale has demanded changes to the Preamble of the Constitution."

The opposition party claimed that Hosabale wants the words "socialist" and "secular" removed from the Preamble. Congress stated, "This is a conspiracy to destroy Baba Saheb’s Constitution, which the RSS-BJP has been plotting for a long time."

Congress further alleged that when the Constitution was enacted, the RSS had opposed it and burned its copies.

The party added, "During the Lok Sabha elections, BJP leaders openly said they needed more than 400 seats in Parliament to change the Constitution. Now, they are once again engaged in their conspiracies, but Congress will not let their intentions succeed at any cost."

On Thursday, the RSS, while calling for a review of the words "socialist" and "secular" in the Preamble, stated that these words were added during the Emergency and were never part of the Constitution drafted by B.R. Ambedkar.

Addressing an event on the Emergency, Hosabale said, "The Constitution drafted by Baba Saheb Ambedkar never had these words in its Preamble. During the Emergency, when fundamental rights were suspended, Parliament was not functioning, and the judiciary was crippled, these words were added."

He noted that while discussions on this issue took place later, no effort was made to remove them from the Preamble. Hosabale added, "Therefore, it should be considered whether they should remain in the Preamble or not."
