Undeclared Emergency in Place for 11 Years Under Modi Government : YS Sharmila

(Fast Mail):-- Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President YS Sharmila launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, alleging that the country has been under an "undeclared emergency" for the past 11 years.

Targeting the Modi government, she accused it of crippling democratic institutions, handing over national assets to corporate houses, and promoting communal tensions.

Addressing a press conference, Sharmila said, "Compared to the Emergency of 1975, this (NDA regime) is worse. Today, people are afraid to speak openly. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Income Tax (IT) department, and Election Commission (EC) are all under the BJP's control."

Sharmila also accused the BJP and its allies—Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Jana Sena Party—and the opposition YSR Congress Party of remaining silent on the alleged cuts to the Polavaram project.

She stated that the Polavaram project, once envisioned to improve lives, has been reduced to "just a dam," and the affected families have allegedly been denied ?80,000 crore in rehabilitation and resettlement benefits.

The Congress leader remarked that no MP has dared to raise this issue in Parliament. She further alleged that Prime Minister Modi's "double engine" government burdens the state with debt but does not provide grants.

Sharmila said, "Prime Minister Modi talks about yoga but ignores the problems of the people. He has not yet visited Manipur. Is this not an emergency?"
