Karnataka: FIR Filed Against BJP IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya and Arnab Goswami for Allegedly Spreading False Information

In Karnataka, a case has been registered against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Cell chief Amit Malviya and Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly disseminating false information to the public, based on a complaint by the Indian Youth Congress. The police provided this information.

According to the police, the case was filed at the High Grounds police station on Tuesday under sections 192 (provocation with intent to cause a riot) and 352 (insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following a complaint by Shrikant Swaroop B.N., head of the legal unit of the Indian Youth Congress.

The complaint alleges that Malviya and Goswami, "driven by criminal intent," spread misinformation and falsely claimed that the Istanbul Congress Center in Turkey was an office of the Indian National Congress (INC).

Swaroop stated, "This act was carried out with criminal intent to mislead the Indian public, tarnish the image of a major political party, manipulate nationalist sentiments, cause public unrest, and undermine national security and democratic values."

Swaroop further noted that the actions of Malviya and Goswami were taken against the backdrop of strained relations between India and Turkey.

Swaroop alleged, "The actions of Malviya and Goswami are an attack on India's democratic foundation, public safety, and national security. They disseminated false news with criminal intent, which must be met with the strictest action."

Swaroop has urged the Press Council of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the CBI, and other law enforcement agencies to take immediate action on this complaint.
