Navy achieves anti-ship missile capability by firing MRSAM

New Delhi, Mar 07, (Fast Mail News):-- The Indian Navy successfully test-fired a medium-range surface-to-surface missile (MRSAM) from warship INS Visakhapatnam on Tuesday morning. This has demonstrated the capability to engage anti-ship missiles.

 

The MRSAM system has been jointly developed by DRDO and Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI). There is also active participation of Indian public and private defense industry including MSMEs. The MRSAM manufactured at Bharat Dynamics Limited reflects the Navy's commitment towards an "Atmanirbhar Bharat".

 

Army formed MRSAM regiment

The Indian Army has raised its first Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) regiment in the Eastern Theater to strengthen its air defense capabilities. This regiment will defend India against enemy aerial threats like fighter jets, UAVs, sub sonic and supersonic missiles etc. The regiment has been equipped with the indigenously developed MRSAM weapon system by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

The MRSAM weighs about 275 kg, is 4.5 m in length and 0.45 m in diameter. Up to 60 kg of weapons can be loaded on this missile. This missile is of two stages, which emits less smoke after launch. Once launched, the MRSAM is fully capable of shooting down any missile, fighter aircraft, helicopters, drones and surveillance aircraft that come within a radius of 70 km. It can strike and attack enemies at a speed of 2469.6 kilometers per hour.
