Talcher Coalfield Paralysed As Contractual Workers Strike Continues For Fourth Day

TALCHER:The coal production and transportation have been disrupted for fourth conssecutive day as more than 12,000 went on cease work for fourth consecutive day here.

About 12,000 contractual workers who are the mainstay of in coal production and in dispatch have resorted to cease work strike in Talcher coalfield for last four days paralysing coal production and dispatch.They put up six point charter of demands including one hike in wages, access to MCL hospital among others.

The contractual workers have demanded hike of wages and medical facilities among others”,said the Union president Narahari Sahoo.

The contractual workers produce coal and despatch in all the eight coal mines in Talcher coal field.But the MCL authority metes out raw deals to the contractual workers in terms of wages, allowances and bonus among other things.

Talcher Coalfield which produces around three to four lakh tonnes of coal per day recorded nil production since Tuesday due to strike.There was also no coal supply either by road or rail to the consumers of Mahanadi coalfield Limited in summer days for the last four days.

Repeated attempts were made to get the MCL authorities. But they didn’t respond.
