Tusker kills two people in Parjang area of Dhenkanal district

 DHENKANAL:Two persons,including one woman were trampled to death in Parjang area of Mabirod range in Dhenkanal district on Saturday.The deceased have been identified as Alekha Naik,60 of village Khalpal and Bari Naik,62 of Gandataila village.

According to forest officials,the wild tusker,in the early morning today first trampled  Alekh to death on the spot and then killed Bari Naik at another village by travelling around 7 to 8kilometers.Then the elephant had sneaked into nearby Barabanka forest. Over the two deaths by the elephant, anger spread in the two villages who had protested the killing by elephant and made forest department responsible for this mishap.

Mabirod Ranger,Satya Narayan Sahoo said a tusker had been staying in Dihadol forest section  for last fifteen days without any incident. He was under tracked by forest officials all along.Last night, he along with another elephant came across with a country made liquor manufacture shop at Dihadol from where had taken some liquor.

“In the early morning,it came to village side of Khalpal first and confronted Alekh Nayak who had gone to attend the call of the nature.He killed the man on the spot and then travelled to another village Ganda Taila where he came  into face to face with another old lady Bari Nayak and killed her on the spot..The elephant had travelled  7 to 8 kilometers after it killed the first man at Khalpal.

 

 

 The ranger admitted the existence of anger  and resentment among the villagers and said that the family of the deceased will be paid rupees 4lakhs each as an ex-gratia.He said the two bodies have been sent for post mortem.

There is palpable panic among the villagers of Parjang area after the incident.According to locals,this elephant had two days ago entered into Kamakhyanagar town in the night.

It may be noted that a few days back, in the district of Angul four people were mauled while a wild toothless male elephant at a time in the early morning.Then after it became calm and cool and is now residing in Hindol jungle Dhenkanal district.The villagers of the deceased people got enraged and protested before Angul collector  by putting deadbodies in the front of the office demanding higher compensation among others.
