Top Indian wushu players and coach excluded from Asian Games
According to a report in The Sangai Express,Wushu Taolu players, Hanjabam Karnajit Sharma and Leimapokpam Sanatombi Chanu from Manipur, both national champions were undergoing Asian Games coaching at Patiala to play in Asian games.But,it is founfd that the names of these two players and the coach are excluded from the Indian squad.
Taolu Coach Mayanglambam Sachidananda though a senior most and experienced international Taolu coach and has produced a number of national and international Taolu champions has been kept out of the squad.
Now,after the denial of entry into the Asian games, the two wushu players' dream have been shattered.
These two players were dropped from the Indian squad on the ground that they have no international tournament achievement to show their talents.According to the report, the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has been responsible for the selection have taken the Moscow Wushu Star Championship 2023 as the criteria.
Mayanglambam Amitkumar, a Wushu coach and a former international Indian Wushu player from Manipur has appealed to the Ministry to reconsider its decision.He said that the performances of the players at the trials should be considered to clinch medals in the Asian Games.But they have taken one tournament, Moscow Wushu Star as a criteria. It is an invitation tournament. We didn’t have any pre-government sanction for the tournament. So, most of our best players didn’t go for that tournament”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Wushu Association of India as well as the Sports minister of Manipur has written to the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports to reconsider its decision and consider including the two Manipuri Wushu players and the coach so that justice may be delivered to them.(With Inputs from The Sangai Express).
